“Getting to Net Zero in Tahoe: Taking Local Action”

Tahoe climate change activists.

10/5/20: WHAT DOES CLIMATE CHANGE ACTION LOOK LIKE IN TAHOE?

Climate change seems like a scary and complex thing that is happening somewhere else.  But in truth it will have a very big impact on our lives here in Tahoe in the near future. Nick Exline will host a conversation with community members taking action to address this challenge. Link to view recording.

10/6/20: 3-part Series Targeting youth at LTCC, HIGH SCHOOL, and Middle School

Attendees will be empowered with current information on the global climate movement and global net-zero goals, connected with other youth leaders, and introduced to local projects, programs, and opportunities addressing climate change.

Bonnie Turnbull will present "There’s Still Time. How Our Decisions Today Can Save our Planet Tomorrow" to Lake Tahoe Community College Students and you! Discussion with local scientists to follow.  Read more about the talk here. Link to view recording.
Trish Sussman hosted a high school stats class with the help of Sunrise Movement South Lake Tahoe hub founders and local students Knilah Penn and Sage Alexander. They learned that there is a lot of great progress toward climate solutions and that it's time to join the action! Recording available to school personnel only.

10/7/20: Green Jobs Here in Tahoe!

Come learn about exciting new green job opportunities being developed in Tahoe, including forest health and wildfire prevention, solar installation, sustainable affordable home building, and energy efficiency. LInk to view recording.

10/8/20: Why Voting Matters to the Climate

Voting is the single most powerful climate action you can take.  Meet your local elected official climate champions and learn how to meaningfully support their campaigns. Hear from local folks running for office about their climate platforms and get tips on grassroots campaigning regardless of your political party affiliation. Link to view recording.

10/9/20: Local action for collective impact

"But I’m just one person--what difference can I make?"  Attendees will be introduced to opportunities to engage in Tahoe-based efforts with collective impact. Find out more from 7 organizations taking climate action: Sugar Pine Foundation, South Tahoe Refuse, Sunrise Movement, local Democratic Party, Citizens Climate Lobby, Schools for Climate Action, and your host group TCCAN.  Link to view recording.

10/10/20: A GLOBAL CLIMATE EVENT

Events during Tahoe Climate Week paralleled climate events around the world.  In this session, we will see how Tahoe fits into worldwide climate efforts.  TCCAN has joined efforts with TEDxBijou to bring you content from inspiring climate change activists from around the world via TED's Global Countdown Launch!  Recording not yet available.
