City of South Lake Tahoe Leadership

On October 20, 2022 STPUD passed a motion to move forward with 1 MW of solar installation at the STPUD campus!
On October 4, 2022 the City of South Lake Tahoe passed an ordinance banning single-use plastic water bottles and styrofoam and are regulating the distribution of single use-food ware!
On December 7, 2021, the City of South Lake Tahoe passed an ambitious energy plan! This is true leadership. Let's get behind this effort!

Winter 2021: City and parters are moving forward with developing the concept of a 'South Tahoe Zero Emissions District' based on the concept of microgrids.
2020 October: The City passed a Climate Action Plan, laying out a framework for achieving climate goals.
The City has been making progress by taking the lead role in assessing for solar development opportunities across the Sierra.
2017 April: The City of South Lake Tahoe committed to transitioning to 100% renewable energy by 2032.
2017 - Worked with NREL to do the Cities LEAP - SLED analysis, which provided an energy use profile for SLT and potential emission reduction strategies.

2021 February: LTUSD receives their first electric bus.
2020 December: Planning to have zero net energy and carbon across their portfolio. See: LTUSD Dec. 15 Board Agenda
2020 October: LTUSD passes student-led climate literacy resolution.
2018 - LTUSD established a Renewable Energy Sustainability Committee, which set goals for the district .
2017 October: LTUSD passes 'green' resolution

The STPUD signed onto an MOU to partners with the SEED opportunity with the City of South Lake Tahoe.

City of South Lake Tahoe Partnering with Sierra Nevada Alliance in Civic Spark

This partnership has resulted in three tremendously effective CivicSpark appointees jointly working for SNA and the City. Major accomplishments since 2019 include: coordinating city-wide GHG inventory and bringing the Solar Energy and Economic Development (SEED) Fund opportunity, a not-for-profit program aimed to empower public agencies to evaluate and participate in regional collaborative procurement of municipal solar projects, and most recently drafting a Climate Action Plan for the City of South Lake Tahoe.

The Sierra Nevada Alliance continues to be a regional leader in climate resiliency.
